Safe Drinking Water Project: Quenching Thirst, Nurturing Lives

tailaring

In collaboration with the esteemed Water for Humanity Fund, USA, Village Development Centre (VDC) embarked on a mission to provide safe drinking water to communities in dire need. This endeavour brought hope, health, and a brighter future to the following areas:

Gaja Cyclone-Affected Villages, Chidambaram Block, Cuddalore District

VDC, in partnership with the Water for Humanity Fund, USA, installed ten bore wells in villages affected by the Gaja cyclone in the Chidambaram block of Cuddalore district. These bore wells became a lifeline for communities grappling with the aftermath of a devastating natural disaster.

Manachanallur and Manapparai Blocks

In the Manachanallur block, we extended our reach further by providing seven bore wells in villages such as Sengulipatty, Poonampalayam, Ayyampalayam, Girls Higher Secondary School, Manachanallur and Kottapatty Village, ManaparaiTaluk. These installations ensured access to clean and safe drinking water, fostering better health and well-being in the region.

Training on Water and Sanitation

Our commitment to water and sanitation extended beyond infrastructure. We organized training sessions to educate communities on the importance of proper water usage and sanitation practices. These initiatives empowered residents to make the most of the newly accessible clean water while maintaining hygiene and health standards.

Traditional Dowser Expertise

To ensure the success and sustainability of these bore wells, VDC utilized the services of traditional dowsers who possess invaluable knowledge of water sources in the region.

Community-Led Maintenance

In line with our philosophy of community participation, bore well committees were formed within the villages to take responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of these vital water sources. This approach not only ensured the sustainability of the project but also empowered local communities to have a sense of ownership and pride in their access to safe drinking water.

Tangible Impact

The impact of these initiatives has been profound. More than 1600 families have benefited directly from the safe drinking water provided through these bore wells. The project was implemented between 2007 and 2012, marking a period of positive transformation and improved quality of life for these communities.

At VDC, we understand that access to safe drinking water is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of healthy, thriving communities. Our partnership with the Water for Humanity Fund, USA, exemplifies our commitment to making this right a reality for those who need it most. Stay tuned to learn more about our ongoing efforts to create lasting change and empower communities in need.
